SAN DIEGO, CA --  Alliance San Diego Mobilization Fund (ASDMF) has just wrapped up the last of its more than 24,000 conversations with voters, urging them to vote NO in the gubernatorial recall. The ASDMF voter turnout effort focused on young voters and voters of color, and it was the largest such effort in San Diego County.

In a multiracial and multigenerational democracy, we need everyone to vote, which is why ASDMF put together a team of 20 dedicated canvassers to call and talk to voters nearly every day for the last month. This effort was part of a statewide community-led effort driven by ASDMF and sister organizations across the state, collectively known as the Million Voter Project (MVP). As of today, MVP has talked to more than 200,000 voters of color and young voters, urging them to vote NO on the recall. This effort has helped turn a close race into a clear lead for the opposition campaign.

For ASDMF and the voters we are mobilizing — who are largely underserved communities — the stakes are high. The recall is a reckless effort to derail the progress we’ve made in providing resources, policies, and programs to marginalized Californians who are young, people of color, immigrants, and working families. Year over year, ASDMF has been effective in turning out voters from these communities through peer-to-peer and in-language conversations with a canvass team that looks and sounds like them because they are part of the same communities.

It will be another month before we know the final results, but what we know today is this — efforts like ASDMF are critical to mobilizing a diverse electorate to advance progressive values.

Christopher Wilson, Associate Director of Alliance San Diego Mobilization Fund, said:

This election is about leadership in the governor’s office to ensure that all Californians have an opportunity to survive and thrive. It’s about building a future for all of us with a governor that values everyone in this state. ASDMF is proud to be a part of a multiracial and multigenerational alliance that reflects the state and has mobilized a critical number of voters for this election. This is how we win.
