POSITIONS ON JUNE 2026 BALLOT
YES ON MEASURE A: This measure creates more homes for San Diegans by taxing corporations and greedy investors who hoard houses in the City of San Diego, incentivizing them to put homes back on the market. If they choose not to, then they pay a tax to offset the impact of empty homes on our neighborhoods.
ASDMF supports Measure A because it is a smart solution to help address the housing shortage in the city. Today, corporations, out-of-state investors, and absentee owners hold back more than 5,100 non-primary houses from San Diegans working hard for a home of their own. Every empty, non-primary home taken off the market drives up rents and pushes out the hardworking families, firefighters, teachers, and small business owners who power our neighborhoods.
If these empty homes went back on the market, they would triple the homes for sale and double the rentals available in the city right now. That’s huge. Every home put back on the market increases the supply of housing, which decreases the costs. This is a win for San Diegans.
